Capsule Geology

The Calcite Cuts showing is located on a hill side across Silver Creek from Dago Pit and south of the S1 Pit. Most of the area above the Calcite Cut showing is buried under waste rock from the S1 Pit. The area of the showing is small and includes several small trenches and underground drifts.

The Calcite Cuts occurrence, which is located 500 metres east of the Big Missouri deposit, lies within south-southeast striking, moderately dipping andesite, agglomerate and lapilli tuff, with interbedded cherty tuff of the Lower Jurassic Unuk River Formation. (See Big Missouri (104B 046 for enhanced geology)). The occurrence lies immediately west of the north trending Union Creek fault.

The Calcite Cuts occurrence lies within the Lower Horizon which consists of green plagioclase-amphibole andesite agglomerate and lapilli tuff with lesser bleached andesite and cherty tuff. The cherty tuff horizon strikes north for 110 metres, dips 20 to 40 degrees west, and either plunges gently to the north or is offset by cross-cutting faults. It widens from 1 to 4 metres from south to north. The chert layer contains abundant fragments of altered andesite. Alteration minerals within the footwall and hangingwall andesites include sericite, quartz, carbonate, and pyrite.

Mineralization, consisting of pyrite, sphalerite, galena, and chalcopyrite, occurs as disseminations, lenses, pods, and stringers within the cherty tuffs and footwall and hangingwall andesite tuffs.

In 2010, Ascot Resources collected several chip samples and drilled in 1545.03 metres in 6 diamond-drill holes. Chip samples were collected across most exposed rock surfaces with most rocks having evidence of previous work. Several of the chip lines yielded excellent results including many greater than 10.0 grams per tonne gold but these are largely in small, isolated pockets; one significant 6 metres chip assayed 137.22 grams per tonne gold and 1757.88 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 32357). Fine grained to small euhedral crystals of pyrite were observed in many of the trenches and elevated silver, lead and zinc were commonly observed in the assay results of the higher grade samples. Gold results away from the main showing decrease rapidly. The results at surface were not reproduced in the subsurface through drilling.

Ascot indicated that the Calcite Cut zone may be part of a larger system as mineralization fr is along trend with S1 (104B 084), Creek (104B 086), which continues north through the Unicorn zone (104B 044). Although Calcite Cuts is close to Dago Pit, there is a major and well documented normal fault expressed by Cascade Creek which marks the eastern boundary of the showing.

A 2012 drill intercept of 26.83 metres (from 1.52 to 28.35 metres) assayed 1.31 grams per tonne gold and 6.3 grams per tonne silver (Press Release, Ascot Resources Ltd, November 14, 2012). Other drilling intercepts included 1.89 grams per tonne gold and 6.4 grams per tonne silver over 75.24 metres in hole PR-12-390 (Puritch, E. (2013-03-27): Technical Report and Resource Estimate for the Big Missouri and Martha Ellen Deposits, Premier Gold Property).
